Makayaji Temple

A traditional temple established in 726 by direct order of the Shomu Emperor, with beautiful garden and Fujiwara-butsu statues. The statues are wooden ”Senju-Kannon-Bosatsu” and ”fudo-myouou”, each of which is an important cultural asset. The garden was built in the 13th Century, round-horai style with ponds, and is said as the oldest garden in Shizuoka Prefecture in interesting Heian style.
