Old Grand Hotel ”Kashiwa-ya” Historical Museum

Kashiwa-ya, a large hotel dating back to the Edo period in Japan (1603 to 1868) and a registered cultural asset of Japan, boasts an original structure that has stood for over 170 years with only minor restorative work. The main building that serves as a historical museum is a reconstruction of the old Japanese hotel at the time. Two storehouses--one dating back to the Edo period and the other to the Meiji period--are used as an art gallery and a Japanese restaurant. You can experience making konnyaku (a jelly-like food made from yam paste) and tofu (bean curd) at the multi-purpose hall.
