The Oigawa (Oi River) Kawagoshi Remains

The Oi River, at the time, was a difficult part of the Old Tokaido Road for travellers to cross because Government policy prevented the construction of bridges. As a result, travellers had to cross the river on bearers’ shoulders. Numerous buildings were set up along the river such as an official control house, inns and shops. Some of them were preserved, while others have been partially restored.
